2011 NAACP Award Hosts
Join me as I take you to the NAACP Award Celebration with my daughter Royal. When your teenage daughter thinks your cool for a night, you feel like a star. March 4, 2011, the Image awards illuminated the airwaves with Black Excellence. Black Hollywood descended on The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California for the 42nd NAACP Image Awards. There is a special joy one gets when you and your daughter are in gowns star-gazing at movie and television stars up close and personal. We were excited to be the guests of former NAACP President Ben Jealous.
Without a doubt, Wayne Brady and Holly Robinson Peete were the most entertaining hosts of the Awards ceremony. Important to note, this award show recognized outstanding achievements made during 2010 by people of color in music, television, and motion pictures.

Best of all, the star-studded evening had everyone from Prince to Angela Bassett. Despite the two-hour NAACP Awards celebration telecast, the time flew by as though it was only 10 minutes. Nothing compared to being there in-person. We didn’t get to take pictures with everyone but here are a few we captured from the second row. Enjoy!
NAACP Awards History
The Image Awards is an annual ceremony presented by the National Association of the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) to honor outstanding performances. In fact, the Awards ceremony was established in 1967, to specifically honor outstanding black actors, actresses, writers, producers, directors, and recognize those working in Hollywood who supported those artists.
The Image Awards is now “a multi-cultural awards show from an African-American point of view.”
There are 54 competitive awards in the fields of film, television, literature, and music. There are also several honorary awards, such as the President’s Award, the Chairman’s Award, the Entertainer of the Year, and the Hall of Fame Award.
I have to admit, attending the NAACP Awards Celebration, was thrilling. This generous gift from my friends to be a plus one to attend the Golden Globes made for an exciting year. #grateful
